Located at the foot of the Luberon, Lourmarin is labeled as “one of the most beautiful villages of France”. It nestles itself amid the vineyards, the olive trees and almond trees. You can discover there many café terraces, some restaurants and provencal shops. You’ll also be able to stroll in the narrow and sinuous village alleys while contemplating the old houses.

In Lourmarin, there is a castle which was built in the 15th and 16th centuries, and which is well known for its curious stairs and apartments. Nowadays, it shelters a rich collection of furniture and works of art. You can enjoy the Belfry, known as “salt box”, the fountains, the Roman church which was restored, the Protestant Temple of the 19th century, or even the houses with the Renaissance facades.

Artists village

Lourmarin is a village of artists which seduced Henri Bosco and Albert Camus. Bosco wrote : “Lourmarin, the most charming village in the Luberon”. Camus bought a house there. The inhabitants of Lourmarin like to emphasize the fact that this writer, who was awarded with the litterature Nobel Prize, lived and wrote there. Both of them rest in the small village cemetary.
