Le Luberon

The Luberon

The blue mountain.

Cavaillon, at the foot of the Luberon

The Luberon, also called “the blue mountain”, is an extremely appreciated region : it attracts many international celebrities and some really wealthy people. The countryside looks really friendly and genuine there. If you like wild hiking paths, you’ll be pleased.

The Luberon is, above all, a mountain with a luxuriant vegetation, an incredible wildlife : that is why it is a Regional Natural Park. The Luberon Regional Natural Park was created in 1977. It covers an area of 165 000 Ha, starting from the Vaucluse to the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, and it is considered as a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO. The park is involved in partnership programs with farmers, and in public awareness actions.

The perched villages

Often built on the heights, the villages of the Luberon will provide you with incredible views on the surrounding Provencal landscapes. But these views are not the only reasons why they were built there : most of the time, these building places were some key positions to exploit the natural resources. The life in the Luberon was always organized around agriculture.

During your visit of the Luberon, you can stop by perched vilages such as Gordes, Lourmarin, Ansouis or Lacoste.

The "Provencal Colorado"

You will be amazed by the large variety of landscapes : from the ochre cliffs in Roussillon, to the Provencal Colorado…

The Luberon is also a land of artists : Albert Camus, Henri Bosco, Paul Signac, Louis Montagné, Camille Corot, Nicolas de Stael, and François Nourrissier settled there. And today, artists still live there : Jean Lacouture, Peter Mayle, etc.
